We believe that all pets deserve the benefit of permanent ID to ensure that they can be returned to their owners in the case they get lost. At our clinic, all pets coming in for spay and neuter automatically receive a microchip and registration with our province wide database, the BC Pet Registry, and for pets that are already spayed or neutered, stand-alone microchip appointments are available.
A microchip is a small implant, about the size of a grain of rice, which is injected just below the skin between the shoulder blades. When scanned, your pet’s unique ID number will come up, and can be traced back to you through the BC Pet Registry, which is available 24/7. Microchips are safe, effective, and will last for the lifetime of your pet.
Permanent ID only works if the information attached to it remains current. Don’t forget to update your address, phone number, and other important information in the BC Pet Registry by logging into your account (one will be created for you when your pet is chipped) or calling the registry at 1-855-622-7722. More information on microchips and the registry can be found at bcpetregistry.ca.
